Popular Books of the Bible Series
The Book of Proverbs is referred to as wisdom literature along with several others: the Book of Job, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, and certain Psalms, known as wisdom psalms. Among the deuterocanonical books, Ecclesiasticus and the Wisdom of Solomon are wisdom literature.
Throughout Proverbs, wisdom (or the wise person) is compared and contrasted with foolishness (or the fool). 'Fool' in Proverbs indicates one who is lacking in morality and uninterested in correction, not one who is merely silly or playful. Wisdom is held up as something worth effort to attain and the reader is told that it starts with the person of Yahweh: "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom."

Julia Proverbs: Not a lot of Wiggling
I have been introduced to the primary school disco - a completely foreign concept for a child of the '70s. In the day, I remember school dances being in a fully-lit country hall, with a muted sound-system. If there was even a sound system. |

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sluggards are given the example of ants so they may become “wise.” To be “wise” refers to “wisdom,” the main theme of Proverbs, meaning experience and shrewdness. It is used of the skill and shrewdness of workers in their areas of expertise, being knowledgeable, experienced and efficient, therefore “wise.” Spiritually speaking, “wisdom” is possessed by one who is both knowledgeable and experienced in following God’s way, the art of successful living. This is being able to cope with life in a God-honoring way, having the knowledge and ability to make the right choices at the right time, being spiritually mature and developed. A part of this is living this life in preparation for the next life, allowing wisdom to lead in the path to living forever with God. While the sluggard is lazy, the wise recognizes that time is limited with those who are spiritually wise remaining diligent in doing good and encouraging others to do likewise.
